As the longest republic in history, the “most serene republic of Venice” has fascinated historians and political thinkers since the Renaissance. What were the organizational principles, the political institutions and social structures of the Venetian Republic that made it so impervious to the trials of time? On this trip, students have the opportunity to discuss these essential historical questions in our visit of the Doge’s palace and on the streets of the city. The purpose of the Fine Arts portion of this trip is two-fold. We visit the many cultural wonders concentrated in Venice including the Grand Canal, the Palazzo Ducale and the Piazza San Marco. At the same time, we draw in and around this most particular city. There will be short Art History lectures given at each sight every morning are followed by afternoon drawing sessions.
Last day to register/cancel: January 24
Late cancelation fee: €750
Payment for study trips must be made no later than February 1 for the Spring 2016 semester. Any concerns in this regard should be addressed to the Cultural Program & Student Accounting Services.
