Home>News>

Observed annually in February, Black History Month is a celebration of black accomplishment and its many heroes, who are often forgotten about, or rarely mentioned. According to Black History Month founder Carter G. Woodson, 鈥淚f a race has no history, it has no worthwhile tradition.鈥

This year, the American University of Paris launched a two-week series of events, sponsored by departments ranging from the聽Center for Critical Democracy Studies聽to the聽Creative Writing Program, in honor of Black History Month. These included a screening of Laurence Petit-Jouvet鈥檚 documentary,聽La Ligne de Couleur, which explores what it means to be 鈥渘on-white鈥 in France, a talk by writer and journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates about his latest book,聽Between the World and Me, and a discussion led by writer, critic, and editor, Thomas Chatterton Williams.
