Peacock Media presents a Podcasting Masterclass with Katy Lee this Wednesday, March 16th at 6:30 PM in Combes 103. Katy Lee is the co-host and producer of The Europeans, an award-winning weekly podcast about politics and culture across the continent. She launched the podcast with a friend, the Amsterdam-based opera singer Dominic Kraemer, in 2017 in response to what the pair felt was a lack of media coverage that made European politics feel accessible or even remotely interesting.
What began as a passion project, with a budget of zero and no media backing, has since grown into a financially stable operation with a four-strong team based in Paris, Amsterdam and Warsaw. The show has won a loyal audience across Europe and beyond with its mix of explanatory journalism, an informal, irreverent tone, and a focus on stories that aren't dominating the headlines. Its increasingly ambitious narrative formats have won strong reviews from outlets such as the Financial Times and The Observer. When she isn't making The Europeans, Katy works as a freelance reporter, primarily covering French politics and society. Her print and audio work includes collaborations with The Guardian, Politico, the New Statesman, Foreign Policy and NPR. From 2010-2021 she worked as a correspondent and editor for Agence France-Presse (AFP), with postings in London, Hong Kong and Paris. She is a graduate of the University of Cambridge, where she studied Social and Political Sciences, and City University London, where she received a Master’s degree in Broadcast Journalism in 2010.
The Europeans is available on Spotify, Apple, and all other major podcast players. Katy's personal website can be found at http://katylee.eu.
