Fascinated by the Loire Valley, its magnificent castles and palaces, delicious wines, works of art, and world heritage? Visit the medieval castle of Angers and see the Tapestry of the Apocalypse, one of the world’s largest and oldest existing tapestries (circa 1380), a precursor to the great mural paintings of the Renaissance. Visit the Devinière, birthplace of François Rabelais (circa 1483), pioneer of the modern novel. Walk through the streets, then dine and taste the excellent wines of neighboring Chinon. Explore the châteaux of Chenonceau and Chambord, two of the most visited palaces in all of France, inspirations for artistic works from Rabelais’ Gargantua (1535) to Walt Disney’s Cinderella (1950). Discover the inventions of Leonardo da Vinci at the Castle Museum of Clos Luce where the artist lived until his death in 1519. Discover the Château of Blois, favorite residence of the Medieval and Renaissance kings and queens, sojourn of poets Charles d’Orléans, François Villon, and Pierre de Ronsard, as well as Joan of Arc, Machiavelli, Catherine de Medici and Marie Stuart.
