THE STUDY TRIP HAS BEEN CANCELED
For hundreds of years Sarajevo has been the place where cultures meet; Ottoman Muslim, Slavic Orthodox, Austrian Catholic, Ashkenazy and Sephardic Jewish. Thirty years ago, it was the central battleground for the deadliest European conflict since World War II. Today, it is a treasure-trove of architectural and striking natural beauty, mountainous, culturally diverse, underdeveloped and unresolved from severe nationalism and economic stagnation. To visit Sarajevo is to confront this brutal history and understand how it influences the country while rebuilding and remembering. Meet civil society organizations working to build co-existence in the face of the memory of mass killing. Discover Sarajevo to appreciate its ancient and recent history and Bosnia’s architectural heritage, an interplay of medieval Ottoman and later Central European styles. Venture into the breathtaking countryside, where a new generation is trying to rebuild the multi-ethnic city of Mostar.
