AH2011 Ancient Art & Architecture
Roman ruins? Absolutely not; in southern France you can see monuments from Ancient Roman times that are in great condition and still in use. In this trip we visit the Roman amphitheater, theater and bath at Arles, a town made famous almost 2,000 years later by its residents Gauguin and Van Gogh. We also visit Arles鈥 impressive Antiquities museum. Another active amphitheater can be found at N卯mes, along with the beautiful鈥淢aison Carr茅e,鈥 built during the reign of Emperor Augustus. The highlight of the trip is the Pont-du-Gard: the practical and aesthetically-pleasing aqueduct that brought fresh water directly from the mountains to the city of N卯mes 鈥 the most beautiful bridge in the world.
