Fall 2018 Arab Film Series
Arab film is gaining increasing international recognition, but is still often largely unknown among western audiences. Join us this semester for an Arab Film Series, a specially curated selection of recent Arab films mixed with classics and rarely-seen favourites presented by the Department of Comparative Literature. The films, the work of new and established directors, include features, documentaries, biopics, and comedies. All are shown in Arabic with English subtitles.
The first film in the series, 'The Nile Hilton Incident' (2017), will be shown on Tuesday 2 October at 18h30 in C-102. A murder takes place at an upscale hotel in Cairo and a policeman is assigned to the case. However, it soon becomes clear that some people may not want to see the mystery solved. Directed by Tarik Saleh, the film stars Fares Fares, Malek Yasser and Ali Maher. It won the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.
Further films in the Series will be shown on 16 October (C-103), 6 November (C-102), 20 November (GL-21) and 4 December (C-102), all at 18h30.
