The SGA Charity Week will draw to its end with a Pre-Marathon Malagasy Party in the Amex. Taking place the evening before the 7k run in the 7th, the charity AJMJTO will join us to talk about Madagascar, the work they have been doing there, and how the 7k run helps. Join us for traditional Malagasy food and traditional music and dancers.
AJMTO (l’Association des Jeunes Malgaches et des Jeunes de Toutes Origines) is a non-profit organization that aids children from the Island of Sainte Marie, off the coast of Madagascar, by building schools and raising the necessary funds to maintain them with running water and electricity. Their work started when they realized that children living near the village of Ilampy were walking 7 km to get to the nearest school. This is why we run 7 km during our annual marathon- to remind usÌý of the 7 km walk the children endured.
Only 15.2% of Madagascar's population has access to electricity. This forces many students to terminate their studies when sun sets, which causes them to lose numerous hours of homework time. By purchasing SolarAids for AJMJTO, children will be given the opportunity to continue their education after the sun goes down.
