By invitation of the Center for Writers & Translators, Thailand's Prabda Yoon will read from and discuss his fiction with translator Mui Poopoksakul ('15) and novelist Tash Aw. Born in Bangkok in 1973, Prabda Yoon went on to study graphic design, painting and film-making at the Cooper Union in New York City and returned to Thailand in 1998. His story collection,ÌýKwam Na Ja Pen, won the prestigious S.E.A. Write Award in 2002, when he was 29. The ³Ò³Ü²¹°ù»å¾±²¹²ÔÌýdescribed his English-language debut as 'evocative, erudite, and often very funny'. Yoon is also the translator of numerous modern classics into Thai, among them The Catcher in the Rye,ÌýA Clockwork Orange, and Lolita. An Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵ alumna, Mui Poopoksakul was named one of the 20 best translators under 40 by The Culture Trip. In early 2019, her translations of two books by Duanwad Pimwana will be published in the United States. Born in Taipei to Malaysian parents, Tash Aw grew up in Kuala Lumpur before moving to Britain to attend university. He is the author of three critically acclaimed novels, which have won the Whitbread First Novel Award, a regional Commonwealth Writers' Prize, and twice been longlisted for the Man Booker prize.
